Kingsland Church Choir

The Parish Church of St. Michael and All Angels Kingsland has for long been noted for the strength of its choir. There are around 20 regular members, of all ages. Some of the younger members have in recent years gone on to become Hereford Cathedral choristers. One such boy went on to become Organ Scholar at Christ Church Oxford, then Assistant Organist at Canterbury Cathedral,  Organist and Master of the Choristers at St David’s Cathedral and now Director of Music at Liverpool Metropolitan Cathedral.

The choir sings a great variety of church music, including the psalms. The normal pattern of choir services is as follows, though there have to be changes to accommodate major festivals (notably Christmas, Easter, Pentecost) and special services (for example Mothering Sunday, Rogation Sunday (when a Eucharist is held on a local farm) Remembrance Sunday, Education Sunday).

11.00 am Choral Matins (with canticles, etc)

6.30 pm Sung Eucharist (BCP, Merbecke setting)

2nd Sunday:

There is an Advent Carol Service, a Christmas Carol Service, and carol singing round the village. There are special musical observances over the Lent and Holy Week period. The choir normally sings at Aymestrey Church for their Harvest Festival.  It takes part in the annual RSCM Festival held in Hereford Cathedral. There are occasional outings, for example to the London Eye, to theatres in London, Birmingham and Malvern, to the Birmingham Symphony Hall & National Exhibition Centre, and to St David's Cathedral in Pembrokeshire.

The choir rehearses each Thursday evening at 7.15 pm.
